The human being has been preoccupied since time immemorial with life, death and after death. Spiritual beliefs from prehistoric to modern times hold the conviction that after man dies some part of his existence survives. They call this part, soul, mind, spirit or variously according to language and culture. Theosophy considers that it is the law of necessity that the human monad reincarnates again and again in order to develop and fully realise the 7 principles of man. The memory of past lives is registered in the reincarnating Ego. The perishable personality during each lifetime has to battle the conflicts and imperfections which it has brought forth from previous incarnations. Eventually through life’s experience and the repercussions arising from the Karmic law, the human being with his own efforts develops into a higher state of consciousness.
